St. Anne Advice Column

Dear Cross Chronicles,

I just realized I have a test tomorrow and I didn't bring home the materials I need to study. I'm totally panicking, and I don't know what to do! How can I fix this problem?

Sincerely,

Completely Clueless

Dear Completely Clueless,

Don't worry. Well, you should have made sure in the first place that you didn't have any tests tomorrow, but since you didn't, there is no going back.

If your test is a math or English test, try to remember what you have learned and explain it as well as you can.  For a reading test, you can always go online and search up any practice quizzes for the story you are reading. Whatever you do, don't panic!

Helpfully,

Dear Cross Chronicles,

I really want to play CYO volleyball this year, but I haven't ever played it before. I'm afraid that I will affect the number of games won if I play, and I can tell that all my friends don't really want me to play. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

I've felt the same way before, so you're not alone!  If you're afraid because you don't know how to play volleyball, you can always learn in the summer and play next year, or you can skip a few games until you feel comfortable playing.

It IS an amazing experience, so don't let your anxiety stop you.  Although you might be a "burden" to your friends, you can always practice instead of playing games; it's still fun!

Dear Cross Chronicles,

Girls basketball is coming up, and I really, really, REALLY want to play.  The problem is, I have no one to drive me.  I'm afraid that I if I continuously ask other parents to drive me, they'll eventually get annoyed.  Any advice?

Sincerely,

Eighth Grade Anonymous

Dear Eighth Grade Anonymous,

Basketball is A-MAZING, so you definitely should play.  Try finding a close teammate's parents to drive you.  Ask them beforehand whether or not it would be troubling for them.  You first should tell the parents you are asking that you could easily find another person, just to make sure that they aren't saying yes out of politeness.  If this doesn't work, you can always stay in extended care to wait until practice time.  I hope this helps!

Dear Cross Chronicles,

I just got my grade for a test, and I was shocked that it was so low. I studied really hard, so I don’t know what I did wrong. What do you suggest I do?

Sincerely, Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

Try seeing what your mistakes were. If you still don’t understand them, ask your teacher about it. You might not be able to improve the grade you got on this test, but you can try to prepare yourself better for your next one. Make flashcards, look over your notes, and reread the material. Also, review a bit each day instead of just cramming the night before. Remember that the most important part is that you learn from your mistakes and try your best every time.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Helpfully,

Dear Cross Chronicles,

I want to make some new friends, but I have no clue on what to do. Could you guide me in the right direction?

Sincerely, Clueless

Dear Clueless,

Be friendly towards everyone, and invite new people to sit with you during lunch. Try talking to different people and pretty soon you will have some new friends. Don't forget that friendships take a while to develop, but are definitely worth the wait.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Helpfully,
