As you all know, the Back to School Mass was on September 12, which means that we have officially started another new year! (Hint: This also means that summer is, sadly, OVER.)

Let's thank the seventh grade and Father Peter for such a great Mass to start the year, and remember to welcome the new teachers and students who have just joined our school.

We hope you have a fun, amazing, and, of course, 'educational' school year!

Back to School Mass

-Student Council Installation

This quarter's mission collection, hosted by our amazing second graders, is off to a great start!  The money we make will be sent to the poor in Nicaragua and be used to buy bee hives to supply people in need.  Bees play an important part in making the environment better because they carry pollen and help cultivate flowers.  Bees also produce honey, which can be used to feed the hungry Nicaraguan families.  Think of all the people we can help if each of us donates one dollar, or more!

We would like to honor the seventh grade for collecting over 530 dollars. A group of seventh graders gathered used clothing, sold them, and donated the money made to the mission collection. Thank you to all those who donated!

               Eighth Grade Retreat

Posted on November 1, 2013

The eighth grade went on their Confirmation Retreat on the 28th and 29th, to Point Bonita in Marin Headlands! There, they played games and did activities to help them learn more about how to be a better disciple of Jesus.  The theme was Reconciliation.

We would like to thank Dr. Cutarelli for leading the retreat and preparing everything to make it a special, unforgettable time! Another thank-you to Father Ray for taking the time to visit us and lead us in Mass at our retreat. And finally, a big thank-you to all the Mercy and Riordan retreat leaders who sacrificed their time for a group of eighth graders they didn't even know. Thank you so much for sharing all your stories with us, and also for putting up with us even when we acted like obnoxious little kids.

And...we couldn't have gotten this far without our awesome teachers! We'll never forget you ;)

A Happy Belated Halloween...With a Story!

What's creepier than a scary story about a haunted castle?  Evan and Olivia Xie, a fifth and a third grader, wrote their very own story called Kalabar's Revenge 2.  Follow their every step as they try to stop Kalabar from taking over the city.  Will they be able to rescue the city, or will Kalabar take over?

DONATING FEELS RIGHT

Posted on November 23, 2013

Remember the five dollars you donated last week?  Well, all the money collected, and also the money we made at the November bake sale, added up to almost 3,000 dollars!  I'm sure the people in the Philippines will be grateful for our help.

The canned food drive, which ended on Friday, was a huge success.  Think of all the hungry people you helped!  And, of course, the second mission collection has begun. This time, the money donated will be used to buy presents for children who aren't as fortunate as we are. Remember to donate as much as you can, and it will definitely feel....RIGHT!

Fr. Ray's Silver Jubilee

As you all know, our beloved Father Ray had his Silver Jubilee Mass last Friday.   Congratulations again, Father!  We hope you had an amazing birthday and enjoyed reading all our cards.   Have an awesome time with your new golf hat and certificate to the House of Prime Rib :)

Christmas Show

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  We hope you are all having a wonderful, relaxing break. Enjoy these two weeks while it lasts :)  Remember to click on the Pictures tab up top to check out the photos from the Christmas show!

The picture at the right is from the show.  An eighth grader is carrying a kindergartener to place a star on top of the Christmas tree.  Isn't that adorable?!

8th Grade Boston Tea Party

Watch out for those Native Americans!  The eighth graders, who are studying the Revolutionary War, hosted their own Boston Tea Party.  In groups, they created Native American costumes out of newspaper and duct tape.  Each group had a model, and on the day of the Tea Party, all the models walked down the runway in the cafeteria, showing off the costumes the eighth graders made.  Afterwards, they celebrated with tea and cookies.  Check out the Pictures section to view some photographs of the models!

Geography Bee

On Wednesday, January 23, we had our school Geo Bee!  All the contestants were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.  A special congratulations goes to sixth grader Joseph Lu, the Geo Bee's champion!  Also, we'd like to congratulate seventh grader Maurice Fisher, for being the runner-up.  And we can't forget all the other contestants!

Joseph, good luck on your written test.  Oh wait, you don't need it!  You'll definitely do wonderful on your test, so don't worry.

Eighth Grade Confirmation was Friday, February 21st.  The Confirmandi were anointed with oil, and they confirmed their Catholic beliefs.  Congratulations!  Also, a big thanks to the choir (Junior High), J.R. (our wonderful piano/organ player), and the two wonderful singers from SHC.  Thanks for helping to play a part in this important event of the Confirmandi's lives.  Good luck to the Confirmandi on fulfilling their mission from God!

February Bake Sale

Thanks to everyone, the bake sale was a huge success!  We made $225, so the Student Council will match it and send a total of $450 to the Lantern Sisters.  Remember to continue to contribute to your mission money envelope.  Also, thank you for all your donations!

Junior High Field Trip

On Tuesday, March 11, the entire Junior High went on a field trip to the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos.  There, they explored the world of aircraft, learning about flight preparation processes and the history of airplanes.  They even learned how to fly a plane, using controls connected to a computer.  We would like to thank the parents who volunteered to drive us, because without them, we would have been forced to cancel our field trip!  Thanks to them, we had an interesting and educational day.

Welcome Back, Sixth Grade!

Last week, the sixth grade went on their long-awaited field trip to Marin Headlands!  We hope you had a wonderful time and experience.  Next week, you can tell us all about it.  Welcome back!

Congratulations!

On March 13th and 14th, the eighth graders finally received their acceptance letters from the high schools they applied to.  Congratulations!  Even if you didn't get into the high school of your first choice, it is still a big accomplishment to make it into any school.  Everybody got accepted to at least one school, which is really great!  Hopefully, every eighth grader is pleased with themselves, because they should be!

Movie Day

Friday, April 4th, was this year's Movie Day!  A big thank-you to everyone for donating.  We hoped you enjoyed the movie, free dress, and popcorn!  The money made from Movie Day will cover some of the funds for next year's Junior High field trip to Washington D.C.  Because of your donations, the Junior High's experience in D.C. will be more enjoyable.  Thanks again!

GENERAL ELECTIONS

This year's General Elections was on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014.  The current sixth and seventh graders had been going through the process of running for a Student Council position.  First, they learned about the positions on Information Day, which was on Friday, May 2nd.  After making their decision, they faced the Primary Elections.  Only two people from each position could proceed to the General Elections.  When Primarys were over, the candidates participated in Campaign Day, when the school could learn more about them. Finally, after a nerve-wracking General Elections Day, we voted.  Congratulations to all the candidates who won!  We wish you good luck being in next year's Student Council.

Mini Olympics

Mini Olympics was on Friday, May 16, 2014.

Hope you all enjoyed this year's Mini Olympics!   We hope you also enjoyed the day of Free Dress, games, and Popsicles.  Did you enjoy watching the volleyball game?   Remember to thank the eighth graders for organizing such a huge event.

May Bake Sale

Wednesday, May 21st, was our last bake sale of the school year.  Hosted by our first grade, it was truly a success!  There were so many delicious, homemade treats, thanks to our wonderful first grade parents.  Among the many varieties were doughnuts, M&M and chocolate-chip cookies, homemade brownies, pink-lemonade cupcakes, rice krispies, and even cake pops.  We made close to $300 at this last bake sale.  A big thank you to everyone who bought a treat, and of course, the first grade.  Also, congratulations to the people who got a sticker!

Father Ray's Farewell Assembly

Thursday, May 22nd, was Father Ray's Farewell Assembly.  The whole school gathered inside the lower cafeteria to celebrate Father Ray's promotion and bid him farewell.  Students from each grade sang a parody of "So Long, Farewell" from the Sound of Music.  A slideshow of photos of school events was shown at the assembly.  The Student Council presented Father Ray with a gift card to a restaurant in his new neighborhood.  He also received a photograph of all the students and a digital picture frame.  Father Ray, congratulations again on your achievement. We are proud of you, but we will miss you so much when you leave.  Also, thanks for the popsicles!

Miss Emily & Mrs. Adams

Friday, May 23rd, was Mrs. Adams' & Miss Emily's retirement Mass.  They were given the memory books our school has put together.  Each class wrote about what Mrs. Adams and Miss Emily will do after retirement.  We also drew pictures to portray all their retirement adventures.  The theme was "Oh, The Places You'll Go!"  Mrs. Adams and Miss Emily, congratulations, and we hope you will enjoy retirement!  Thank you for all the time you spent teaching at St. Anne's.  We wish you joy and happiness in your future years!
